I have with this monitor / watch for about three weeks as I train for a marathon. The first time I ran, out in the cold, did not seem to want to come to a reading, and thought it was the blood circulation in the cold with no less than excellent. The first day I tried to use it while I was at work, and it was hot and there would be only a casual reading.
After the first day I discovered that I'm putting his hand onMonitor if I had with the pads of your fingers. It shows the correct position in the instructions, but does not mention that they are not always reading with proper placement.
For the last two and a half weeks, it seems every time a reading. This includes while I'm using while I'm lifting, and while I'm just walking to work or home. This works most of the time when the pulse is wet, but even then not read at times HR. I'm with P90X and works with most of the time but can frusrating try to break it to work during your water.
